Does the number of coins played affect what comes up on the reels of a slot machine?
In other words, if I am playing a quarter slot machine and am playing just one quarter at a time when I hit a big jackpot, is my correct mental response:1) DAMN! Wish I had been playing THREE quarters–I would have won XXXX more dollars. Or 2) Good thing I was playing one quarter since that’s what this machine was ready to hit on.
NOT looking for OPINIONS. Hoping someone out there is a techie who has a definite ANSWER to this question.

yes and no the number of coins played has no effect on the symbols that appear. but in the time it would have taken you to play more coin the RNG would have cycled to a different point and a different result would be on the reels.

I am only going on documetaries I have seen, I’m not a techie.
But here’s how it works:
When you press the start button a random number is generated. This random number then selects a prize from $0 to jackpot from a win table. The win table is designed such that there is a significantly greater chance of winning nothing versus winning the jackpot.
A simple win table could look like this:
1) Jackpot
2) 100 credits (three cherries)
3) 20 credits (start feature pay 20 credits)
4) zero
5) zero
6) zero
etc.
Clearly a real win table is massive containing perhaps millions possible combinations.
So what affects the outcome is the random number, and how generous the pay table (and internal win table) is.
In Vegas the state gaming commission inspects machines to ensure that they are not rigged in some special way.
The reason it is important to always play maximum credits is because on most machines the full jackpot is only available if you do. Some machines might offer, for example 3000, 6000, and 10,000 credits for one, two and three credits respectively. The other prizes generally remain in proportion, but the jackpot is a better return. For progressive machines the progressive jackpot is usually only available if you play maximum credits. Therefore winning the jackpot could be comparatively small versus winning the progressive.
To answer your question, the machine does not notice that you are playing more or less credits and then adjust how likely it is to pay out. But the higher jackpot is going to give you better odds.
